Phuket prepares for ASEAN Beach Games

PHUKET: More than 3,000 athletes and referees from 47 countries are set to take part in the 4th ASEAN Beach Games to be hosted in Phuket November 14-23, Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong announced yesterday (October 6).

Governor Nisit said preparations were underway to provide round the clock services and security for the participants.

He encouraged Phuketians to come together for this opportunity to welcome some 10,000 tourists from around the world during the games.

The governor said he hoped the games would be a boost to tourism in the region following a decline in tourist numbers and damage to the country’s reputation since the tragic murder of two British tourists on Koh Tao.

“This is a chance to restore confidence in Thailand as a safe tourist destination. We must all work together to ensure the safety of all residents and tourists in the Land of Smiles,” he said.
