Flight Searches out of Hong Kong Increase by 290% with Bangkok as the Top Destination

Expedia Group, a travel provider, reports that in the 24 hours following the government's announcement on Monday that hotel quarantine standards will be lowered, online searches for flights out of Hong Kong increased by 290%.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, was the top trending location, followed by Osaka, Japan, with a tenfold increase in flight searches for each from the previous seven-day average, according to Expedia. The most common type of travel was inside Asia, while flights to Seoul, Phuket, and Singapore all saw high demand.

"Whilst the relaxation of quarantine requirements has clearly played a key role in inspiring renewed interest in travel," said Lavinia Rajaram, head of public relations for Expedia in Asia, in a statement on Wednesday. "However, Expedia's flight search data has indicated that Hong Konger's interest in the resumption of overseas travel has been gradually picking-up over the last six months."
